South Carolina has so many organizations that are doing awesome work that makes our communities better.
About 100 of USC’s best students will be gearing up to help these nine nonprofits this year at the CreateAthon@USC marathon event Nov. 7 and 8.
Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity
Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing organization that brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. We partner with individuals and families in Richland, Lexington, and Fairfield counties to create strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable home ownership.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Crescent Region
The organization is dedicated to youth development, serving South Carolina for over 60 years. The mission of the organization is to help young people, especially those in need, achieve their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center
The organization works on the front lines in the fight against child abuse throughout the Midlands of SC. We see children 0-18 who are abused physically, sexually or have witnessed crime or drug endangerment. We provide forensic interviews, medical exams, and therapy to ensure that every child receives the services they need free of charge.
South Carolina Center for Community Literacy
The mission of the South Carolina Center for Community Literacy is to provide all youth with access to quality materials that encourage a love of reading. We accomplish this through materials, creating a community of practitioners and partners who share these goals.
Wholespire
This organization provides communities with proven and sustainable approaches that lead to increased access to healthy choices for ALL people. We want informed influencers and empowered communities who work together to ensure everyone has access to healthy choices. The organization focuses on connecting, convening and collaborating, knowledge sharing, advocacy, and policy, systems, and environmental changes.
Charleston Hope
Charleston Hope envisions a world where every child has access to the mental and behavioral health support they need to thrive. We do that through our mission of increasing access to mental and behavioral health programs in Title 1 schools to enhance student well-being.
Pathways to Healing
The organization’s mission is to end sexual violence through advocacy, education, and supportive services. PTH is a rape crisis center that offers supportive services to survivors and their loved ones at no cost. We also provide violence prevention education for youth.
Midlands Fatherhood Coalition
The organization engages fathers in the positive support of their children and enhance community support for fatherhood throughout the Midlands.
EmmanuWheel
The organization’s mission is to provide access to individuals who have impaired mobility due to illnesses, accidents, birth defects, or degenerative conditions.
CreateAthon@USC Team
Mission 1: Capture the great moments of the creative event from the beginning to the very end
in photography and video so others can see the excitement, student involvement and
the awesome work created for the nonprofits.
Mission 2: To assist with making this event awesome for all — assist check in, assist Prof.
Mercado in setting up meals and snacks and special nighttime events and assist with
midnight.
